Maternal Mental Health: Fundamentals

A 3-hour course for professionals who work with pregnant or postpartum women

Have you heard of the “baby blues” or Postpartum Depression? The majority of providers who treat women and mothers get little to no training on now to recognize or support women who are dealing with pregnancy or postpartum mood changes. Maternal Mental Health complications are very real and can be devastating to a mother and family.

Pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders affect nearly 20% of all mothers. Postpartum Depression is the #1 complication of childbirth. Yet, most women go undiagnosed and untreated because it isn’t on the provider’s radar. Even if it is on their radar, some providers feel at a loss when it comes to helping. The good news is, this is treatable! We just have to know what to look for and how to get the moms to the right resources for help.

Come and learn the signs and symptoms of pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders, how to easily screen, make as assessment, understand the options for treatment and get connected to the multitude of local and national resources available for the mothers and providers. This course provides accessible information and skills that you can integrate into in your work with mothers, fathers and families.
